Lapel CHAPEL

LAPEL CHAPEL

In 1887 J. C. McCarty started the first funeral establishment in Lapel. Within the first year, Mr. McCarty built a home and business room on the northwest corner of what is now Main and 10th Street. J. C. ' s son, Rexford D. McCarty, joined the firm and it became known as McCarty & Son Funeral Home. In 1938 they remodeled the home they purchased across the street at 1010 North Main Street to create the town's first funeral home.

Brothers, J. Merwyn and Basil Fisher purchased the funeral home in 1946 and renamed the establishment Fisher Brothers Funeral Home. The Fisher Brothers remodeled the home in 1948 with additions to the north and south side of the home.

In 1984, at retirement age, the Fisher brothers sold the firm to Scott E. Hersberger. The firm name was changed to Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in 1988. Scott was able to purchase the property just south of the funeral home and he built an office and showroom building on that property in 1993.

In 2018, Scott partnered with life-long friends, Funeral Director Todd Bozell and his Son, Noah. In September of 2019, Scott decided to transfer ownership to the Bozell's as he moves towards retirement.
