Wilma Gene Mahoney

September 2, 1921 — December 28, 2014

Wilma Gene Mahoney, 93, Anderson, passed away December 28, 2014, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness.

She was born September 2, 1921, in Williamsport, In, the daughter of the late Willis and Flossie (Chandler) Whitley. She was raised in Alexandria and was a 1939 graduate of Alexandria High School. Gene was a homemaker and at one time worked for Anderson Banking Company. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother very devoted to her family and friends. Over the years Gene enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.

A special thanks to Mary Armington, her friend and personal librarian and to the staff at Countryside Manor for their wonderful care.

She is survived by her son, Michael P. Mahoney of Anderson; one brother, Douglas A. (Beverly) Lee of TN; two daughters-in-law, Kathleen Mahoney and Dawn Mahoney; five grandchildren, Tyler Mahoney, Dustin (Brittnii) Mahoney, Logan Mahoney, Adrianna Mahoney and Austin (Brittany) Goen; five great grandchildren, Madison Mahoney, Miah Mahoney, Rylee Mahoney, Knoxx Mahoney, Evoli Goen and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremiah J. Mahoney in 1989; her son, Jeremiah P. Mahoney in 2008 and her step-father, Ralph Lee.

Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Jay Harvey officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A celebration of her life will follow at the American Legion Post #127, 4118 Columbus Ave., Anderson, IN 46013.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
