Willis Benedict, 81, Anderson, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born on November 28, 1928, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania to Irvin and Minnie (Good) Benedict.
Willis retired in 1998 from farming and retired from Frankton-Lapel Community Schools as a bus driver.
He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church where he served as an elder.
He is survived by wife of 57 years, Nellie Lou (Long) Benedict; four children, Gary (wife, Becky) Benedict of Modesto, CA, Rebecca (husband, Tim) Allgood of Modesto, CA, Elaine (husband, Quentin) Hirt of Sawyer, KS, and Sheldon (wife, Kathy) Benedict of Anderson; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Marion Benedict of Waynesboro, PA; and two sisters, Clara Benedict of Waynesboro, PA and Alice Benedict of Chambersburg, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Welty and Harlan Benedict; and two sisters, Elva Benedict and Rhoda Benedict.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Old German Baptist Brethren Church in rural Anderson. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pendleton.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Old German Baptist Brethren Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice, 2015 Jackson Street, Anderson, Indiana 46016 or the Lapel Fire Department, P. O. Box 999, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0999.
