Willis Melvin Purdue

Willis Melvin Purdue, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.He was born on May 7, 1922, near Alexandria, Indiana, to Alba and Mary Hildred Purdue.He was a 1940 graduate of Alexandria High School. He began working as a skilled tradesman at Delco Remy General Motors in 1941, and retired from there 45 years later in 1986.Melvin wed Charlsie Yount on April 3, 1953. They were married for 67 years. They bought land in 1955, and thus began Purdue Family Farms.Melvin devoted his life to the care of his family and the farm. He and Charlsie enjoyed traveling through all 50 United States. He took great pleasure in a round of golf and in having weekly breakfasts with his buddies.He is survived by a son, Jeff (Vicky), a daughter, Teresa (Kris), his grandchildren, Nikki, Amanda, Greg, and Michael, and 11 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, his beloved wife, Charlsie, and his cherished grandson, Nathan.A graveside service will be held on April 3, 2021 at 11:00am at Grovelawn Cemetery, Pendleton.Expressions of sympathy can be sent to Hersberger- Bozell Funeral Home in Lapel.Online condolences: www.hersbergerbozell.com
