Willis Earl Wolfe

Willis Earl Wolfe, 86, rural Lapel, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a brief illness. He was born on February 4, 1927, in Madison County, Indiana to Earl and Nora (Aldred) Wolfe. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1945 and served in the U. S. Army in the Korean War. Willis he had been employed at the former Container Corporation of America in Anderson and retired in 1987 from the former Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson after 16 years of employment. He was interested in American history concerning Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Franklin Roosevelt, and the automotive industry. Willis was also interested in John Deere tractors and had restored three himself. He was an inventor who held 3 U. S. patents. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Althea (Moseley) Wolfe; two daughters, Diane (husband, Jackson) Mendenhall of Lapel, and Elaine Lee Wolfe (fiance, Tracey D. Haskett) of Anderson; two grandchildren, John R. (wife, Abbie) Mendenhall of Lapel and Jill M. (husband, Sherman) Farris of Lapel; three great-grandchildren, Reed , Sloane, and Holden Mendenhall; and a niece, Sherry Wolfe Ritchie of Lapel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Reed and Estelle (Lukens) Wolfe; and his brother, Neil Wolfe. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel where the Lapel American Legion Post 212 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, December 27, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Lapel Food Pantry, P. O. Box 626, Lapel, Indiana 46051-0626.
