Willie 'Woody' K. Fields

Willie "Woody" K. Fields, 71, Lapel, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis.
He was born on April 18, 1947, in Bell, California to William and Mildred (Newman) Fields.
Woody was graduated from Lapel High School in 1966 and received both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Ball State University.
He retired in 2013 from Frankton/Lapel Community School Corporation where he had worked since 1970. He was a long-time 6th grade teacher and had served also as Athletic Director and Elementary Principal at Lapel. He spent many summers painting for residents in the Lapel area.
Woody was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel. He had coached many sports including football, basketball, softball, track, and wrestling for boys and girls of many ages. He was also an avid coin and gun collector and he never missed an event his girls or grandchildren were in.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne (Ricker); two daughters, Julie (Marc) Fensler and Jana Fields; three grandsons, Daulton, Garrett, and Marc Ryan Fensler; a brother, Rudy Shelton; and a sister, Betsy Humphreys.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 217 East 7th Street, Lapel, Indiana with Mr. Shane Kemerly and Rev. Larry Bracken officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, February 22, 2019, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
