William S. Svyantek, 84, formerly of Anderson, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 in Marion. He was born July 29, 1932 in Ralph, PA to the late Joseph & Sophia (Kissell) Svyantek. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea (1955-1956). Playing or coaching football for over fifty years, he was a football coach with the Marion Community School System for many years. He also was a guidance counselor for Justice Junior High School. He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and of the National Education Association. He was also a member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and was a 60-year member of the I Men’s Club for football at Indiana University. William is survived by his children, Daniel (Frances) Svyantek of Auburn, Alabama; William Paul Svyantek of Marion, Indiana; Theresa (Warren) LeCompte of Front Royal, Virginia; and Kristin (Neil) Garvey of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Martina (Trevor Browne) Svyantek, Andrej (Zhuoyu) Svyantek, John Michael Garvey, Cora Garvey, Meghann Garvey, & Meghan LeCompte; great-grandchild, Janosik Shanshui Svyantek; and sister, Anna Marie Richnafsky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine (Schock) Svyantek; and son, Stephen D. Svyantek. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Rev. Mike Weber officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
