William Ronald Hersberger

William Ronald Hersberger, 90, lifelong Lapel resident, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield, following an extended illness.
He was born on February 20, 1919, in Madison County, Indiana to John William, II and Berniece (Williamson) Hersberger.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1937. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Ronald retired in 2000 from Rolls-Royce (the former Detroit Diesel Allison) after 60 years of employment.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Noblesville Moose Lodge, and a 55 year member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212. He enjoyed gardening and farming.
He is survived by three children, John (wife, Sue) Hersberger of Fortville, Deon (wife, Sheila) Hersberger of Greenfield, and Denise (husband, Robin) Hersberger-Gray of Pendleton; one sister, Leah (husband, Raymond) Renbarger of Anderson; ten grandchildren, Stacy (husband, Paul) DeVreese, Benjamin Hersberger, Angela (husband, Colin) O'Connor, Eric Hersberger, Richard (wife, Lori) Hersberger, Katherine Hersberger, Marcia Hersberger, Ian (wife, Katie) Gray, Lorean (husband, Wade) Michael, and Elliot Hersberger-Gray; and five great-grandchildren, Kurt Hersberger, Kaylee Marie Hersberger, Reagan Hersberger, Kaylee Mae Hersberger, and Camilla DeVreese.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Dorothy J. (Tourney) Hersberger, and a brother, John Delbert "Deb" Hersberger.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
