William R. “Bill” Young

William “Bill” Ralph Young, 96, of Anderson, passed away on September 28, 2023. Bill was born on November 12, 1926 in Lafayette, IN to the late Jessie Harrison and Blanche (Ward) Young. Bill married his loving wife, Clara (Maxwell) Young, and the two were married for 27 years before his passing. He faithfully served our country in the United States Army during World War II. Bill was an agent for State Farm and worked there for 23 years before retiring. He was a faithful member of the Anderson Elks Lodge 209, the Fairmount American Legion Post 313, the Fairmount VFW Post 313, where he also served as a commander for many years, and the Lions Club. Bill loved dancing, cheering on Purdue, and fishing with his buddy, Bob Roth, whom he shared a fishing trailer with. One thing about Bill is, he loved sharing the fact that he was good friends with Emmett Kelly, Jr.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, Clara; children, Kevin (Bonnie) Young, Steve (Francie) Young, Kathy Hugle, Rock (Kathy) Fuqua, and Rick Fuqua; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, John Claxon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Kindra Claxon; and siblings, Irene, Richard, Betty, and Harriet.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to close friend and caregiver, Judy Gulmire.

The visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday, October 6, 2023 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral ceremony will begin at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park.
