William Michael McCurry, 77 of Anderson, passed away on October 11, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 6, 1944 in Anderson to the late Robert and Margaret (Skouden) McCurry.
Bill graduated from Madison Heights High School. He completed Labor Law courses at Ball State University and Leadership and bargaining courses at Indiana University. Bill retired after 36 years starting at Guide in 1964. Bill always kept up to date concerning the issues of the thousands of people he represented. He was a member of Local 663; Bill served 16 years in bargaining- 4 years as District Committeeman, 8 years as Zone Committeeman, 4 years as Chairman of the Shop Committee, served on the National Bargaining Committee as a top negotiator : then in 1985 he was selected to join the International Union Staff from which he also retired in 2000. He then fulfilled his dream retiring as a winter resident in Lakeland, Florida, playing golf to his heart’s content
Bill was the recipient of the Walter P. Reuther Award and an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. He loved the U.A.W. He was a passionate Democrat and loved politics. He was an avid sports fan, Notre Dame Football being his favorite. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anderson and faithfully attended First United Methodist in Lakeland, Florida.
Survivors include his wife and soulmate of 45 years, Patricia (Matthews) McCurry of Anderson; children, Michael McCurry of Anderson, Carol Aynes of Anderson, Michelle Ardery of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Nathan (Adrienne) Butts, Jordan (Micayla) Aynes, Chelsie Aynes, Alexis Aynes, Ellen Ardery, Margaret Ardery, Charlie Ardery, Shelby Hancock, Haley Craver; great grandchildren, Britlyn Butts, Taylor Butts, Onna Johnson, Jamison Aynes, Giovanni Aynes, Talen Wood, Lilly Wood, Bentley Wood; best friends include his fur baby “Jake”, Ron Mahoney, Johnie Roberson and Rick Mowery.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
Services will be on Monday at 2:00 pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013 with burial at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Anderson First United Methodist or the Animal Protection League, 613 Dewey St, Anderson, IN 46016.
