William “Bill” M. Smith, 90, passed away March 9, 2021 at Bethany Pointe in Anderson. He was born November 6, 1930, in Livingston, Tennessee to the late Edd & Verdie (Spicer) Smith. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Delco-Remy after 33 years as a welder. He was a Pacers fan, loved bowling and gardening, known for his tomatoes. His love of dogs led him to be an avid member of the Hoosier Beagle Club, serving as the field trial secretary for a number of years. Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elease (Paul) Smith; daughter, Linda Smith; brothers, Loyd (wife, Shirley) and Dustin (wife, Becky) Smith; several nieces and nephews; and faithful four-legged companion, Baby. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Veachel Smith, Ruby Smith, Jewel Newberry, Lola Conner, Delcie Heiny, Alma Conner, & James B. Smith; and four-legged buddy, Angel. Services will be at 1:30 Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Elders Vernon White & Dennis Faivor, officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. Due to Covid19 mandates, all guests are required to wear face masks and practice social distancing.
