William D. Hall

William D. Hall, 92, passed away November 5, 2016 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was born in Ingalls on April 10, 1924 to Samuel Jess and Opal Matilda (Ginder) Hall.
Bill graduated from Fortville High School. He also attended Anderson Christian College, The University of Wyoming and received his under graduate degree and his law degree at Indiana University Law School.
He was a 61 year member of Lawrence United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school; attended and led bible studies; and enjoyed weekly services.
Throughout his musical career he sang bass and played a number of instruments. He was a part of many quartets and singing groups, including a family quartet with his sisters and brother. In the 1970's, he owned and operated "The Underground," a gospel recording studio. He enjoyed providing music at various events including Fish Frys and nursing homes. He also hosted local radio shows that featured gospel music, guest interviews and Christian trivia, as well as a short wave radio program that was available all over the world.
Bill authored a few books and was a song writer.
He was a Navy advanced instrument instructor for pilots in both World War II and the Korean War, and actively flew his own private plane for several years.
Bill was a long-time member of the Indiana Bar Association and received the Indiana Fifty Year Member Award a few years ago. Bill also served as City Clerk Treasurer of Lawrence for twenty-four years. He served on the Lawrence Township School Board during the period when the new Lawrence Central (current) campus was built.
Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Barbara (Bodenhorn); a son Larry (Barb) Hall; a daughter-in-law Joan Hall; Jenny Alig "daughter"; two sisters Marlene (Dan) Walls and Betty Corbett; four grandchildren, Adam (Rebecca) Hall and Elizabeth Hall, children of Wayne and Joan Hall and Christina and Jonathan Hall, children of Larry and Barb Hall; great grandchildren Hunter, Annika, Joleona and Jalen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Wayne Hall; a brother Layman Hall; and a sister Martina (Hall) Runyan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Lawrence United Methodist Church, 5200 North Shadeland Avenue, Lawrence with Pastor Joe Johnson officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to church family, neighbors, nurses from Community Hospital, Westminster Village, and Compassus Hospice for their loving care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence United Methodist Church, 5200 Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46226.
