Ward O. Shetterly, Jr.

Ward O. Shetterly, Jr., 88, Lapel, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a brief illness.
He was born on April 21, 1923, in Madison County, Indiana to Ward and Edith (Huffman) Shetterly, Sr.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1941.
Ward retired from the former Guide Division of General Motors in Anderson after over 36 years of employment.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625; and Lapel American Legion Post 212. Ward played on the 1940 Lapel High School basketball team that went to the final four in the Indiana State Tournament; he was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Zehrung (friend, John Sanders) of Murfreesboro,TN, and Vickie (husband, Gary) Miller of Lapel; two sisters, Norma Forrer of Marshall, MO, and Annabelle Oleksy of Fishers; four grandchildren, Brad (wife, Vicki) Zehrung of Murfreesboro, TN, Marla Sims of Murfreesboro, TN, Chad (wife, Megan) Miller of Noblesville, and Jenifer Miller of Evansville; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis (Jenkins) Shetterly.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel where the Lapel American Legion Post will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
