Walter "Gene" Fountain

Walter Gene Fountain, 94, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born on October 4, 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Leslie and Garnet Elizabeth (Perry) Fountain.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Walnut Grove High School. He served his country proudly in the US Army.

He retired from Hooks Drugs as a computer operator in the IT department.

He attended Perkinsville Community Church. He loved IU basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball and Indy Car racing. He coached little league baseball for many years. He was a member of the former Lapel Masonic Lodge. He loved spending time with his family.

Gene is survived by a son, Michael Fountain of Perkinsville; a granddaughter, Mika (husband, Corey) Lawson of Perkinsville; a niece, Donna (husband, Mike) Lawther of Lapel; a nephew, Gary (wife, Cindy) Hiday of Indianapolis; two great-nieces, Amanda (husband, Landon) Paddock of Lapel and Baylee (husband Brian) Robertson of Lapel; six great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Robert (wife, LeeAnn) Kashmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lou Ann (Murfin) Fountain on July 9, 2012; his parents; and two great-nephews, Joshua Martin and Jeremiah Martin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Pastor John Pflum officiating. Burial will follow at K of P and IOOF Cemetery in Frankton.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the funeral home.
