Vivian E. Barnhart

Vivian Barnhart, 91, of Pendleton, was surrounded by her daughters as she went to her Heavenly home October 3, 2020. Vivian married the love of her life on May 18, 1984. She was married to John “Bud” Barnhart for 30 years until his passing on May 11, 2014. Their lives were filled with love. Together they enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV, collecting and dealing in antiques, and gardening. Vivian Rose Elrod was born on February 19, 1929, in South Carolina to Eliza Jane (Hatcher) and Chester Elrod. She moved from Georgia to Indiana in 1967 where she lived the rest of her days. Vivian was a collector. Besides antiques and depression glass, she was a collector of people. Vivian loved getting to know everyone she met. Her sweet Southern voice and her genuine smile filled the hearts of everyone she met. Another of her great joys was sharing her love of cooking. She found great pleasure in feeding others. After she lost Bud, she filled part of the void by baking. She loved delivering treats to friends, family, and those who had helped care for her beloved Bud during his last years. Vivian was know for her sewing skills. For years, she did alterations for many of Pendleton’s residents. She also was a very skilled quilt maker. She was known for her teddy bears made from vintage quilts. She made a quilt or teddy bear for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, John Barnhart; her sister, Beatrice Eadie; and her oldest daughter, Sue Hulsey Haag. Vivian is survived by her children: Connie Hulsey Wills (David), Lisa Robinson Dwyer (Daniel), Tina Robinson LePage (William), and H. Allen Robinson. Her grandchildren: Mindy Haag, John “Jack” LePage, and Steven Robinson. When Bud and Vivian married, she spread her love to include his children. John Barnhart (Sherri), Ronald Barnhart (Kim), Sherry Hazelbaker (Sonny), and Gail Barnhart. And the wonderful grandchildren he shared with her: Olivia Sporinsky (Nick), Kimberly Shah, Justin Barnhart (Blaine), Hilary Barnhart, Mandy Marshall (Michael), and Kelsey Brown. Vivian also has 16 great grandchildren. She has one great-great granddaughter whom she met in February on her 91st birthday. Services: 1 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton with Pastor Neal Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mendon Cemetery, south of Pendleton.Visitation; 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Lahm Chapel, Pendleton.In accordance with COVID-19 mandates, all guests in attendence are required to wear face coverings or masks and practice social distancing.
