Velma E. Harris, 97, Noblesville, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007, at Harbour Manor Care Center in Noblesville following a period of declining health.
She was born on September 13, 1910, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky to Jake and Ollie (Davis) Leach.
Velma retired in 1972 from Firestone in Noblesville after 21 years of employment.
She was a member of the Slatey Creek Baptist Church in Kentucky.
She is survived by one sister, Nova Williams of Ohio County, KY; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Harris of Lapel; five grandchildren, Tim (wife, Pam) Harris of Westfield, Vicky (husband, Bill) Meldahl of Noblesville, Terry (husband, Greg) Krieg of Westfield, Deborah Harris of Fort Wayne, and Rodney (wife, Cherlyn) Harris of Noblesville; two step-granddaughters, Vicki (husband, Terry) Kendall of Knightstown, and Cheri Small of Anderson; and eighteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband, Ernest Harris; one daughter, Janet Ann Harris; one son, Carroll Harris; and one great-grandson, Brandon Harris.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Pastor Fred Knoll officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
