Velma Dean Haston, 94, of Middletown, passed away peacefully, October 24, 2018. Velma was born July 26, 1924, in Livingston, Tenn., to the late Gentry and Iva (Reagan) Nevins. She moved to Anderson in 1942 and worked at Woolworth’s until being hired on at Delco-Remy. She married Ray Haston in August of 1946 and became a homemaker. Velma loved being with her family and making memories at her cabin at Dale Hollow Lake. She enjoyed baking and was popular for her delicious raisin oatmeal cookies; gardening; which she canned much of the family staples; playing softball; playing for the Middletown Red Wings for three years and playing cards. She especially loved being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Vicki (Phillip) Frist, Ron (Sandra) Haston, and Doug (Stacey) Haston; grandchildren, Steve (Vanessa) Frist, Patricia (Harold) Avila, Amanda (Aaron) Hittson; great grandchildren, Tyler Frist, Travis Frist, River Frist, Wilson Ray Avila, Victoria Avila, Ashley Smith, Macy Terrell, Amber Fording, Tanner Haston and Ross Haston; great-great grandchildren, Caleb, Rilie and Nash; sister, Ruth Dale, and sister-in-law, Martha Haston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Haston; brother-in-law, Tom Haston; grandson, Mark Fording Haston; sister, Ina Jones; brothers, Bill Nevins and Archie Nevins. We wish to express our thanks to the staff at Bethany Point for all the loving care they gave to Velma Dean. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Archie Nevins officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
