Thomas W. Richardson

Thomas W. "Tom" Richardson, 91, Lapel, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Rawlins House in Pendleton following a brief illness.
He was born on February 26, 1926, in Sulfur Springs to Jack Thomas and Ruth (Zile) Richardson.
Tom was a WWII Army veteran and had proudly served in Rhinelands and central Europe and had been awarded two bronze stars.
Tom retired in 1983 from the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson where he worked plant security.
He was the longest continuous member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212; Anderson V. F. W.; and the Anderson 40 and 8. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in his yard.
Tom is survived by his wife of 70 years, Leora Jane (Edwards); three children, Carole (Vaughn) Bracken, Tom Richardson (Deanna Etienne) and Eric (Kathy) Richardson; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Lee; a sister, Frances Lou; a brother Danny; and a nephew.
A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Brookside Cemetery conducted by the Lapel American Legion Post.
There will be no visitation.
