Thelma G. Buchert, 86, of Anderson, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness.
She was born May 17, 1929 in Sneedville, Tenn., to the late Charles and Bertha (Smith) Lawson and moved to Anderson in 1951. She was a graduate of Hancock High School and attended Lincoln Memorial University and Carson Newman College.
She had been employed at the North Side Pharmacy and Famous Footwear retiring in 1992 and was a member of Kingston Ave. Baptist Church.
Thelma is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Buchert; two daughters, Kathy (Dale) Schmaltz and Diane (J.R.) Burton; step daughter, Mary Lou (Dale) Stinson; step son, Bruce (Laura) Buchert; grandchildren, Melody Lopez, Nicholas Ferguson, Jonathan McCoy, Elijah Ferguson; great grandchildren, Breanna Ferguson, Enrique Rodriguez, Aiden & Sofia Arteaga, Kyler Coots and Gracelyn Ferguson; one great great grandchild, Nayeli Ferguson; sister, Eula McDonald; brother-in-law, Durward Drinnon; and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Curtis Ferguson; daughter, Karen Ferguson; brothers, Kyle, Grover & Oscar Lawson; sisters, Grace Seal, Hattie Teague & Nina Drinnon.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Rev. Jamie Woodyard officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kingston Ave. Baptist Church.
