Steven E. Callaway, 73, formerly of Anderson, and currently residing in St. Petersburg, FL. passed away April 25, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Anderson on November 17, 1944 to William and Virginia Callaway and had resided here until moving to St. Petersburg, FL. in 2005. He retired from Guide Lamp after 25 years of service. Steve graduated from Anderson High School Class of 1962 and was outstanding in baseball as a left handed pitcher. He received a full college scholarship at the University of Kentucky where he had an outstanding record. He signed a baseball contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he played for four years. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge, Madison County Shrine Club and Past Exalted Ruler of Elk’s Lodge 209. He was an avid sportsman, loving golf, fishing, hunting and building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Callaway Worley of Anderson; his mother, Virginia Callaway of Anderson; special cousins, Jo Ann Stoops, Marcia Schwan and Karen Wulle and several other cousins. Also surviving is a special friend, Eileen and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William Callaway and wife, Dottie Callaway. The Ole’ Left Hander has rounded third and is sliding into home… Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Dr. John Young officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
