Stanford 'Big Hack' Lee Hackleman

Stanford Lee "Big Hack" Hackleman, 73, Pendleton, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness.He was born on March 30, 1946, in Anderson to Edward and Hilda (Hatton) Hackleman.Stanford was graduated from Lapel High School in 1964 and received a Bachelors degree from IU.He was a captain in the U. S. Marine Corps and he flew as a fighter pilot during the Viet Nam War. When he enlisted he became a navigator on the C-130 cargo planes and then he was a F-4 Phantom Jet instructor pilot until he retired in 1974.Stan retired as an engineer from the former Guide Lamp division of General Motors in Anderson. He had also served as a minister and sang in a gospel quartet for 13 years.He was a member of the Daybreak Community Church; the Lapel American Legion Post 212; and ABATE. He played basketball in high school, Wharton City Junior College and transferred to IU where he played as a red shirt. He had served on the Frankton-Lapel School Board for four years.Stan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Willa (Ford); two children, Bret (fianc, Karla Bredemeyer) and Sheri (James) Arehart; five grandchildren, Kaycie, Alec, James, II, Andrew, and Aaron; one brother, Jerry (Bessie) Hackleman; and a sister, Sue (Terry) Jones; and special family, the Clem-Hacks, Ken, Shawn, Brittany, and Jacob.He was preceded in death by his parents, and Chris Clemons.A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel with Rev. Richard Cole officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2019, at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Daybreak Community Church, P.
