Stan Shelton, 59, passed away in Utsunomiya, Japan while visiting his son on Thursday, March 28, surrounded by his family. Stan was born on September 3, 1959, to Charlie and Jean Shelton of Middletown, where he was the youngest of four children. Stan’s dad, Charlie, taught him the love of baseball. He grew up watching the Cincinnati Reds and attending home games. Stan passed the love of the game on to his own children and grandchild. Stan’s infatuation with cars landed him a job at Ed Martin in the cleanup crew when he was 19. His hard work and dedication progressed him through many titles over his 39 years at the company. For the past several years, being the Service Manager at the dealership was more than just a job to Stan. It was an extension to the passion and commitment to integrity he lived every day. While ensuring Ed Martin’s customers were taken care of, he developed many life long friends. The fondness of cars didn’t stop at work. Stan was always on the lookout for the next car to add to his rotating collection. You would often find him with a wad of cash in his wallet, just in case he needed to purchase a vehicle. He had many favorites throughout his life including his 1973 Chevelle, the 1968 Camaro he built with his son, Adam and the 1960 Impala he was piecing back together with his daughter, Emma. Stan was proud of the house he built for his wife and kids. He and Kim loved spending time working in the yard, attending dinner club with friends, going to concerts, and spending time with their kids and grandchild. Stan was a constant in so many lives. Even on his worst days, he was a better and more helpful man than most of us would ever dream to be. Stan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kim (Higbee) Shelton of Pendleton, his mother Jean Shelton, his children; Adam (Jessica) Shelton and Emma (Rob) Harper, his only grandchild and best bud Cal Shelton, his siblings; Don (Debbie) Shelton, Cathy Emswiller, and Robert (Pam) Shelton, his father-in-law Don Higbee, brothers-in-law; Jay (Linda) Higbee and Tod (Julie Imel) Higbee, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Brown- Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E 53rd St, Anderson, IN, with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research at www.cancerresearch.purdue.edu.
