Spencer B. Carpenter, 67, Noblesville, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Indianapolis VA Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on August 4, 1945, in Union City, Indiana to Dwight and Elizabeth (Burkett) Carpenter. He graduated from Union City High School in 1963 and he was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Spencer retired in 2009 from the Sprint phone company after 37 years of employment. He was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212 where he held several positions including Commander and currently was serving as trustee. He was also a member of the Noblesville V. F. W. and the Lapel Eagles Aerie 4313. He is survived by his wife, Lynn (Brinker) Carpenter; one daughter, Jamie (husband, Eric) Meadors of McCordsville; two step-sons, Cory Duncan of Montgomery, TX and Mike (wife, Kathy) Gilbert of Wilkinson; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Ken Carpenter of New Smyrna, FL and William (wife, Judy) Carpenter of Port Orange, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jodi White; and two brothers, Stanley and Jack Carpenter. A memorial service and military honors will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the Lapel American Legion, 1600 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana.
