Sherri Lee Smith

August 9, 1944 — December 29, 2023

Sherri Lee Davis Smith, 79, of Pendleton passed away peacefully at home on December 29th, 2023.  She was born on August 9, 1944 to the late Charles and Gladys “Vicki” (Vaughn) Davis of Fairmount, Indiana.

Sherri attended Fairmount High School where she was involved in many different activities, including cheerleading, honor society, prom queen, homecoming queen, and a Job’s Daughters Honored Queen.  Early in these high school years, she met the love of her life, Dick Smith.  She graduated from high school in 1962.

She married John Richard “Dick” Smith on August 4, 1963.  After high school, Sherri worked as a secretary at RCA in Marion Indiana.  However, she found her true calling as a stay-at-home mom when her first son Mark was born a few years later.  Eventually she and Dick were blessed with 2 additional children.

During this time as a full time mom, Sherri actually didn’t stay home much.  No matter where they lived, in Fairmount, Pendleton, or Albany, Georgia, Sherri was always very active in church, singing in the choir, attending Sunday School and Bible Study.  She also enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, volunteering and eventually babysitting for all of her grandchildren.  After the kids were older, Sherri went to work for South Madison Community School Corporation as the secretary for their Maintenance Department.  She thrived at this job, keeping a finger on the pulse of the community and making lifelong friends along the way.

Sherri was always taking care of everyone around her.  She was fun and happy all of the time, always wearing a smile, and ready to try something new.  Sherri’s unwavering support of people also provided an unending network of loyal friends who frequently enjoyed traveling, parties, games, and meals.

Sherri’s honest and beautiful love that she showed to all around her gave her the freedom to live life to the fullest.  She was a very active and present wife, mother, and especially grandmother.  Her example also encouraged Dick to be the best husband, father, and grandfather.

Sherri is survived by her husband John Richard “Dick” Smith; her sons Mark (Lori) Smith of Arcadia,Indiana, and John (Ann) Smith of Carmel, Indiana; and her daughter LeeAnn (Randy) Sherman of Fishers, Indiana.  She had 6 grandchildren: Joe (Abby) Smith, Portland, Indiana, Jimmy Smith, Westfield, Indiana; Regan and Kimberly Sherman, Fishers, Indiana; and Brynn and Claire Smith, Carmel, Indiana.  Sherri also is survived by one great-grandson, Jack Allen Smith.  Sherri is survived by brother Mike (Nancy) Davis, Fairmount, Indiana; sister-in-law Kaye Smith, Columbia City, Indiana,  and several nieces and nephews she loved dearly.  She is also survived by many, many close friends.

Sherri is preceded in death by her parents, Dick’s parent’s, P.A. and Mary Smith, and her brother-in-law, Robert Alson “Bob” Smith.
