Setsuko "Setchan" Ashley, 86, of Burlington, KS, passed away August 6, 2024 at Life Care Center of Burlington.

Setsuko was born March 6, 1938, in Takahagi, Japan, the daughter of Shigeru Omori and Miyako (Komatsu) Omori. She met Charles Ashley while Charles was working in Tokyo, Japan as an aircraft engine service engineer. They were married on December 18, 1964, in Tokyo. They travelled to other service locations around the world, including Iran, and ultimately settled in Shirley, Indiana. Setsuko worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant.

Setsuko was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Takao Omori; and her father and mother in-law, Earl and Eva Ashley.

She leaves her son, John (Natalie); Grandson, Owen Ashley; her sisters, Hiroko (Tanomo) Oyake, Reiko (Kazuo) Yamagata, Nobuko (Kazuo) Sawada, and Takeko (Takashi) Ujihara; and several nieces and nephews.

Setsuko enjoyed gardening, sewing, hummingbirds, collecting bells, and playing the piano and harmonica.

Visitation will be from 12:00PM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at Bozell Funeral Home, Condo Chapel, officated by Rev. Gary Cable. Private burial will take place at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
