Sara F. (Smith) Finney, 103 of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on July 21, 2019. She was born February 8, 1916, in Wilkinson, IN, to J. Freeman and Eva Francis Smith. Sara graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1934. She began her professional career at Delco Remy in Anderson. Sara went to work at the Indianapolis Water Company in 1949 and retired from the water company in 1981. She rose to the position of Head Cashier back when people came to the main office to pay their bills in cash. She was very proud of her responsibility to handle the company’s money. She said even the company president had to go through her for the combination to the safe. Sara was an excellent seamstress, and she particularly enjoyed quilting. She made beautiful quilts for her family over the years. She was also a music lover and was still singing a few bars of her favorite oldies on her last birthday. Although Sara had no children, she dearly loved her nieces and nephews: Marilyn Steele (deceased), Sandra Smith, Gayle Webb, Jon Smith, Sarah Smith, James Smith, Juli Wemmer, Jay Smith, and their families. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands Ward Bridges, Harry Riley and John Finney; brothers George, Fred, Bill, and Jim Smith; sisters Thelma Watts, Louise Gustin, and Georgiena Smith. The family would like to thank Westminster Village North for their compassionate care. Sara also received several years of loving care from Anna Bailey of Senior Home Companions. Anna and her husband, James, were dear friends of Sara and her family. Arrangements are being handled by Condo & St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Wilkinson, IN. A private graveside service will be held for the family at McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson, IN.
