Sandra A. Neese, 69, Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a sudden illness.
She was born on April 8, 1936 in Lapel, Indiana to Oral and Alma (Meeker) Neese. She was a Lapel High School graduate and received a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a law degree from Indiana University. Following law school, she worked in the attorney general's office for the state of Indiana. She served with the first lawyers project in the Peace Corps at the University of Liberia in Monrovia, Liberia. Sandra had served with the Missouri Human Rights Commission before working with the federal Equal Employment Opportunities Commision where she was the Kansas City regional attorney, a member of the Chicago litigation center and then the Milwauke regional attorney. She was actively involved in the civil rights movement. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel, the Naomi Circle, and the Indiana Bar Association. She is survived by her mother, Alma Neese of Lapel; two sisters, Emily (husband, James) Sisson of Lapel, and Beth Neese of Indianapolis; one brother, David (wife, Jeanne) Neese of Philadelphia, PA; six nieces and nephews, Jane Sisson, Julia (husband, Mark) Alness, Donna Lynn (husband, Mark) Eliason, Thomas (wife, Pamela) Sisson, Geoffrey D. Neese, and Natasha Pomparelli; and ten great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery in Lapel. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel.
