Russell Dean Best, 72, Anderson, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on February 14, 1936, in Klondike, Indiana to Walter and Ruby (Smith) Best.
Russell retired in 1998 from Delco Remy after over 40 years of employment. He had been a farmer for many years in the Frankton area..
He was a member of the Lapel Eagles Arie 4323 and he enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Best; four children, Charles (wife, Sheryl) Best of Frankton, Jim (wife, Kathi) Best of Vancover, Wash., Deb Best of Noblesville, and Lisa Carlile (fiance, Ed Cooper) of Elwood; seven step-children, Skeeter Henry of Lapel, Vickie Henry of Perkinsville, Tricia (husband, Darrell) Hammer of Noblesville, Keith (wife, Amy) Hinshaw of Anderson, Nicole (husband, Joe) Harrell of Elwood, Treva (husband, Aaron) Hickman of Lafayette, and Connie Hinshaw (fiance, Jeremy Rickert) of Pendleton; one brother, Harvey Best of Madison; seventeen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia Davenport; and one brother, David Best.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Chris Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
