Russel D. “Sonny” Wolfe, Jr., 84 years, of Anderson, left us on March 12, 2021, with his wife, Sharon by his side, while a rehab patient at Bethany Health Care Campus, after complications form hip surgery. Russ was born in Columbia City, Indiana the only son of Margaret (Clemmons) and Russel Wolfe, Sr., who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Columbia City High School and the Indiana State Police Academy. He served in the US Army from 1954 until being honorably discharged in 1962. He had education at Vanderbilt University & Indiana University in Law Enforcement, which led him into other areas of police work. He served as a dedicated Indiana State Police Officer from 1964 until his retirement as a Lieutenant in June 1991. Russ was instrumental in the Motor Carrier Administration serving as Motor Carrier Inspector to Operation Center Commander. After his retirement Russ worked for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles as well as the City of Anderson as the Emergency Management Director. Previously he was an officer with Columbia City Police Dept. Russ was an active member of the Anderson 40/8, as well as American Legion Post #127 and the Whitley County FOP. He married the love of his life, Sharon (Poer Creek) Wolfe, under the dome of the Indiana Statehouse on December 31, 1988, and recently celebrated their 32nd anniversary. Russ was an avid hunter and fisherman, proud father, grandfather, and “unc”. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Ann J. Fenimore of Richmond, Teri (Kelly) Hawes of Anderson, Jim (Heather) Sims of Anderson, and Julie (Sarah) Wolfe of Greenfield; grandchildren, Megan Schenk, Nicole Fenimore, Jake Hawes, Matt & John Sims, & Michelle Carnehl; nephew, Trent Jarvis; sister & brother-in-law, Cindy & Brad Ormes; dear traveling companions, Jerry & Peg Land; piano mates, Judy Carver & Ted Wainscott; life-long fishing buddies, Kerry & Debby Faulkenberg; his neighborhood family; his many friends from Rock Steady Boxing and pals from 40/8. Per Russ’ request no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the 40/8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
