Roy “Denny” D. Smith, Jr., 89, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born July 2, 1932, to the late, Roy & Inez (Pumphrey) Smith, Sr. He grew up in Pendleton and graduated from there in 1950. Denny was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He retired from Guide Lamp after 42 & half years in skilled trades. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church and later attended First Baptist Church. Denny enjoyed working outside and always keeping busy. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Denny is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vivian (Paschal) Smith; children, Dawn (husband, Mick) Campbell & Greg (wife, Pam) Smith; sister, Noretta (husband, George) Clarkson; sister-in-law, Corrine Rector; grandchildren, Aaron & Daniel Smith, and Modlene Campbell; step grandchildren, Erin & Kyle Campbell; aunt, Midge Rittman; uncle, Jim Crull; several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend special thanks to his niece, Kathy Rousey, for her assistance to the family during Denny’s care. Services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, August 30 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Pastor Art Jaggard officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
