PENDLETON- Ronald W. “Ron” Slaughter, 70, of Pendleton passed away June 3, 2020 at his residence after an extended battle with Parkinson’s.He was born March 24, 1950 in Mitchell, Indiana and was a Pendleton resident since 1977.Ron retired from General Motors Guide Corporation as an engineer in 2000 following 30 years of service.He was a 1967 graduate of Mitchell High School and received associates degrees from Vincennes and Indiana State Universities.Ron was a member of Madison Park Church of God in Anderson. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. Most of all he was an adoring grandfather.Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. (Kuhns) Slaughter whom he married June 24, 1972; mother, Ruth (Reynolds) Slaughter of Mitchell; children, Amanda (Scott) Safford of Pendleton and Christopher (Brandi) Slaughter of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kennedy Safford, Cooper Safford, Hayden Slaughter and Parker Slaughter; sisters, Sharon (Dave) Williams of Mitchell, Martha (Mike) Young of Bloomington and Cheryl (Gary) White of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Slaughter.A public visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday with a private ceremony to follow at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton.The family strongly requests that masks be worn during this time.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a Parkinson’s non-profit: Rock Steady Boxing, 7440 N.
