Rodney Thomas Knowling

August 7, 1953 — April 14, 2021

Rodney Thomas Knowling, 67, of Pendleton, passed away on April 14, 2021 at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on August 7, 1953 in New Castle to the late James and Evelyn (Smith) Knowling. Rodney retired from Guide Division as a Skilled Tradesman after 30 years of service. He was a member of the HOG-Harley Davidson Group. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Rodney is survived by his wife, Karen (Throesch) Knowling of Pendleton; daughter, Darra (Jeff) Brown of Pendleton; son, Jason Knowling of Pendleton; grandchildren, Haley (Zach) Phillips of Atlanta, GA, Dylan Brown, Lachlan Brown, Justin Brown; several nieces and nephews and all of his Harley friends, especially those he went on trips with and the guys he played pool with every Friday night. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Jerry Leonard, Mike Knowling, Diane Knowling and a niece, Amy Leonard. Rodney loved his wife, children and grandchildren fiercely. He always made the best omelets and hash browns every Christmas morning and was always responsible for making the mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving and other family gatherings. In his earlier years he loved flying his ultralight airplane he built. Later, riding Harleys was his passion. He coached many little league teams and made it to every game for his children and grandchildren that he could. He absolutely loved playing rummy with his oldest grandson, Dylan, several times a week. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all of the wonderful physicians and nurses at Community Heart and Vascular that took such extraordinary care of Rodney. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 24th from 3pm – 10pm at The Party Barn located at 2544 E. 400 S. in Anderson. Please dress casual, preferably in Harley or bald eagle shirts (what Rodney always wore). There will be a gathering at Elbert’s Bar in Daleville at 1pm and a memorial ride from there to The Party Barn.
