Robert Simmerman

Robert Simmerman, 83, of Lapel, passed away August 26, 2023, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness.

He was born on September 20, 1939, in Lapel, Indiana to Otto James Simmerman and Freelove (Sylvester) Simmerman.

Bob graduated from Lapel High School, class of 1958, and later married the love of his life, Dianna Simmerman whom passed in 2010.

He retired in 1997 from the Ford Motor Company. Everyone at Ford knew Bob as "Tex". 

He was a devoted Indiana University Basketball fan and Chicago Cubs fan. Bob loved his Lapel Bulldogs and enjoyed playing Euchre. He was a 50-year member of the former Lapel Masonic Lodge #625 now known as Fellowship Masonic Lodge #681. Bob attended Ford Street United Methodist Church.

Robert is survived by his children, Cathie (husband, Paul) Haley of Indianapolis, Brian Simmerman (partner, Michelle Holbrook) of Lapel, and Chris Simmerman (partner, Jason Richardson) of Indianapolis; brother, Jack D. Simmerman of Pendleton; grandchildren, Amber Ward of Lapel, Andrew Barton of Ft. Worth Texas, and Julian Simmerman of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Joseph VanBuskirk, Aaliyah Ward, Tearsa Ward, and Jack Johnson; He is also survived by a special friend, Sallye Highsmith of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and five siblings.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday September 1, 2023, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051, with Rev. Gary Klinger officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the funeral home.
