Robert Joseph 'Killer' Kowalski

Robert Joseph "Killer" Kowalski, Jr. 76, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at his residence in Lapel following a brief illness, and battle with cancer.He was born on September 11, 1943, in Muncie, Indiana to Robert Kowalski and Donna (Brown) Kowalski .Robert graduated from Royerton High School in 1961.He retired from the Indiana State Police force in 2003 after 39 years. He also retired from the Indiana National Guard in 2003 after 27 years. Robert served in the United States Army for 3 years. He was a member of the Lapel American Legion Post 212, where he was in the Honor Guard. Robert was dedicated and proud to serve his community, which he loved. He also loved working with the youth in his community. He is survived by his wife Sharon (Hiday) Kowalski of 45 years of Lapel; children, Joe, David, and Scott; brother Dennis Kowalski; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Brandon, Tyler, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Bella (Papaws Girl), Sophia, and Elijah. He is also survived by a nephew, Dennis; and a great-nephew, Austin; his extended family, Connie, Patsy, Teresa, Michael, and "SSS". Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce; and a special friends Trooper Roy Jones, and Lee Ann Bennett.A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Chuck Wanner officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday. Military Rites will be conducted by the Lapel American Legion Post 212, and the Indiana National Guard. The family would like to thank Dr. Fisher, Dr. Wright, Dr. Abbott and staff, especially medical and spiritual guidance from "AAA"In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lapel American Legion Honor Guard.The family would like to inform everyone, that there will also be a Recognition of Life Service held at the Lapel American Legion Post 212 at a later date.
