Robert J. Sokol

Robert J. “Bob” Sokol, 78, Anderson, died April 24, 2016 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born on January 11, 1938 in Anderson, the son of the late John Leo and Genevieve (Romanski) Sokol Moreland. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1955. He married Penny Farlow in 1959 at St. Ambrose Church in Anderson. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, where his parents and paternal grandparents were married.
Bob was a golfer, horse racing enthusiast and devoted husband and father. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and worked for the City of Anderson’s Municipal Light and Power, where he retired in 2000 after 45 years of service as Distribution Superintendent. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance and served as president of the Polish Lodge of Anderson, of which his father previously served and brother currently serves as president. He was a member of the Anderson Elks, Eagles Lodge and enjoyed vacationing with his family and friends in Florida, French Lick and the lakes of Northern Indiana.
Bob is survived by his wife, Penny Sokol of Anderson; four children, Scott Sokol, Robert Sokol both of Anderson, Trent (Kristi) Sokol of Fishers and Christy ( Mike) Stalnacker of Jefferson City, MO; grandchildren, Brandon Sokol of New York, NY, Blake Sokol, Brady Sokol, Brock Sokol all of Anderson, Jeffrey (Zoie) Welch of Warsaw and Jacob Welch of Jefferson City, MO; three great-grandchildren, Preston Sokol, Alana Welch and Layla Welch; a brother and sister, Steve (Joanne) Sokol and Joyceann Yelton of Anderson; one uncle, Walter (Mary Ann) Romanski of Warren, OH and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles, including his father’s 13 siblings all of whom were born and died in the Anderson area following their parents’ immigration to the United States from Poland at the turn of the last century.
Mass of Christian Burial will at 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl St., Anderson, IN, with Father Richard Doerr and Monsignor Robert Sell officiating. Entombment will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 P.M. Thursday with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
