Robert J. Leffel, Sr., 76, passed away suddenly on Friday March 11, 2016 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1939 in Niles, OH, the son of the late Millard and Catherine (Sherry) Leffel. The family moved to the Anderson area when Robert was 5, which was also the marked the first time he rode in a car.
He was a member of the Anderson High School Class of 1957 where he played trumpet in the Marching Indians. He enlisted in the Air Force in May 1958 and retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1988. The majority of his service was at Grissom Air Force Base.
On January 7, 1967 he married Coranell Stage at Central Christian Church, Anderson. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1994 after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the Madison County Veteran’s Association and enjoyed bowling and woodworking.
Robert is survived by his wife Coranell “Corky” Leffel of Anderson; children, Robert J. (Karen James) Leffel, Jr. of Steamwood, IL, Sherry (Paul) Loschi of Englewood, OH, Nadine L. (Dan) Thomas of Litchfield, OH and Tim E. (Ronda) Leffel of Homerville, OH; grandchildren, Robert J. Leffel, III, Kaylee and Matthew Leffel, Delbert and Nicholas Canfarelli, Kristen Allison, Nolan, Lachlan and Cohen Thomas, Garran Leffel and Josh Hebert; great-grandchildren, Sam, Tony and Isaiah Allison and Jamisyn Leffel; sisters Barbara (Curtis) McGuire of Anderson, Doris (Harold) Royer of Pennsylvania, Wilma (Kenneth) Gerard of Anderson and Mary Main of Colorado; brother, Lavern John (Frieda) Leffel of Anderson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best buddies, Freddie and Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his parents Millard, Sr. and Catherine Leffel; brothers, Millard J. Leffel, Jr., and Jim (Maidie) Leffel; and sisters Betty (Joe) Balogh and Alice (Buster) Henninger
Services will be 11 a.m. Wendesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service
& Crematory officiated by his daughter, Mrs. Sherry Loschi, burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 266. Family and friends who are in the miliatary are invited to attend in their uniform.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
