Robert F. Bunnell, 86, Lapel, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Community Hospital of Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on June 27, 1923, in Waynetown, Indiana to Charles and Opal (Mitchell) Bunnell.
He graduated from Fortville High School in 1941 and served in the U. S. Army during WWII and he received a purple heart with one oak leaf cluster and two bronze stars.
Robert retired in 1986 from plant security at the former Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson.
He was a member of Ford Street United Methodist Church; and the Lapel American Legion Post 212
He is survived by four children, Robert W. (wife, Betty) Bunnell of Fortville, Barbara (husband, James) Perry of Anderson, Terri (husband, Jim) Prather of Lapel, and Brad (wife, Debbie) Bunnell of Lapel; fifteen grandchildren, Bob (wife, Becky) Bunnell of Ingalls, Bill (wife, Ericka) Bunnell of Muncie, Travis (wife, Brittany) Bunnell of Pendleton, Trent (wife, Angela) Bunnell of Fairfax, VA, Tom (wife, Misty) Bunnell of Fortville, Kim (husband, John) Flowers of Anderson, Kelly (husband, Michael) Spaulding of Carmel, Rebekah (husband, Jeff) Clark of Noblesville, Jim Perry of Pendleton, Stacie (husband, John) McCormick of Fort Wayne, Annie (husband, Jeremy) Stow of Anderson, Abe (wife, Lin) Bunnell of Greencastle, Sarah (husband, Tom) McMillan of Lapel, Amber Bunnell of Avon, and Ian Lamb of Lapel; twenty-six great-grandchildren, Tim, Nate, Lyndsay, Drake, Mackenzie, Kenny, Allison, Lexi, Clayton, Alayna, Brantt, Maddie, Kyle, Jake, Kaitlyn, Brittany, Carter, Alaynah, Logan, Dylan, Brennan, AnnaLee, Braxton, Clayton, Kaylyn, and Anna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Madeline (Griffey) Bunnell; three brothers, Gerald Bunnell, Harold Bunnell, and Charles Bunnell; and a sister, Doris Palin.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville where the Lapel American Legion will perform military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, October 2, 2009, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel.
