Robert Earl Asbury, Jr, 61, of Anderson, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020, at his residence.Bob was born May 20, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana, to Robert and Virginia (Becraft) Asbury.He grew up in Lapel, where he made many lifelong friends. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1977.Bob retired from Anderson Municipal Light & Power. During his 30 year career, Bob made many close friends within the city government and the community alike, especially when their power was out.He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed traveling to Minnesota with family and friends to enjoy cabin life by the lake. He loved waking up early to get a jump start on fishing for the day. Sitting by the lake, listening to loon calls was his ultimate life serenity. Additionally, he enjoyed many spontaneous trips to Gulf Shores with his mother, Virginia, who frequently reminded him she had her bags packed and was ready to go. Bob truly enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Bob was known to be a genuine, compassionate and loving gentleman with a great sense of humor. He was known for his big bear hugs and many would call him the nicest person theyve ever known. During the holiday season, Bob surfaced as the greatest Santa in the world. Seeing all the smiling faces brought him much joy. Christmas time or not, Bob loved to make people happy.Bob was the ultimate father to his son, Matt. From coaching his little league baseball teams to offering life guidance and facilitating great conversation, Bob was always there for him. Bob was the king of dad-isms and loved to send and receive memes, GIFs and funny YouTube and TikTok videos. Matt was his pride and joy and Bob's love was felt, and will last a lifetime.He is survived by his son Matt (Sierra) Asbury, granddogs Izzy and Barkley, of Leander, Texas; sisters, Debbie (Larry) Strother of Noblesville; Annette (Pat) Young of Anderson; Jeanette Asbury of Anderson; Lisa (Larry) Morrison of Noblesville. Bob was also survived by many nieces and nephews.Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pam Boles; his wife, Nancy Asbury.A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana, with Rev. Brent Weaver officiating.Visitation will precede the service from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home.Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.Health precautions for the safety of the family and visitors will include wearing face coverings and social distancing.Online condolences: www.hersbergerbozell.com
