Dr. Richard “Dick” William Weinzapfel, 85, of Anderson passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021. He was born on June 28, 1936, in Evansville Indiana to the late George and Catherine (Wildemann) Weinzapfel. After graduating from Mater Dei High School, he served his country for three years in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Navy Construction Battalion, also known as the Seabees, which is responsible for building much of the infrastructure at U.S. military locations around the world. He returned home and graduated from University of Evansville, and Indiana University School of Dentistry with a specialty in Pediatric Dentistry from Marquette University. He opened and maintained his own pediatric dental practice in Anderson from 1968-2021. Known to many as “Weiny”, he always had an easy-going attitude and a classic smile. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Edgewood Country Club. He was a huge IU fan, rarely missing a game. Those close to him remember his many sayings he frequently used, such as “Here today, gone to Muncie”, “Hide ‘n Watch” and perhaps, the most famous, “Offer it Up”. He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Brenda (Bradway) Weinzapfel; children, Susan McCord, Karen (Jeff) Welch, Janie Miller, Angie (Bob) Mortensen, Steve (Jennifer) Weinzapfel, David (Tiffany) Weinzapfel, John Hay; two brothers, Jerry Weinzapfel and Thomas Weinzapfel; seventeen grandchildren, Spencer and Peyton McCord, Scott and Sydney Weinzapfel, Dane and Sam Weinzapfel, Brandon and JJ Welch, Jackson and Maggie Miller, Kim, Zack, Natalie and Jake Heiniger, Jack, Joe and Jasmine Hay; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Weinzapfel; and his parents George and Catherine Weinzapfel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 am Friday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl Street, with visitation from 9 am until time of services. The church requests guest wear masks and practice social distancing.
