Richard J. Etchison, 90, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019. He was born in Anderson on April 30, 1929. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Post Office, having been a carrier for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Anderson VFW. He enjoyed the farm, family, and friends. Richard is survived by his daughters, Kay (John) Joy, Tess (Lynn Gann) Etchison, & Linda (Mike) Frazee; grandchildren, Matt (Sylest) Frazee, Travis Frazee, Lesley Best, Ashley (Josh) Miller, April Joy, Megan Joy, & Jeff (Allison) Joy; brother, Jesse Etchison; great grandchildren, Olivia Blymire, Joey Best, Jaycie Best, Elli Frazee, Brooke Hunter, Grace Moore, Jayden Moore, Madison Joy, Sullivan Joy, Seth Miller, & Tyson McKinney; and cousin, Joyce Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilia (Sparks) Etchison; father, Jesse Etchison; mother, Zoe (Renfro) Curry; brothers, Carl & Ed Etchison; cousin, Oran “Doc” Lannes; and his four-legged companion, Captain Colby. Services will be 12:30 Friday, October 25, at the Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory, officiated by Rev. Daryl A. Gilbert. Burial will follow at Grove Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fifth Street United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the care of their father, to the staff at Lindberg Crossing Senior Living, especially Mickey, & Shorty.
