Richard J. 'Dick' Helterbrand

Richard J. "Dick" Helterbrand, 84, Lapel, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness.He was born on June 25, 1936, in Fishersburg, Indiana to Charles Sherman Helterbrand, and Welma (Crist) Helterbrand .Dick attended Lapel Schools. He was a member of the Lapel American Legion post 212, Lapel, and the Indy Blue Water Anglers. Dick was also a member of the Grandview Christian Church in Pendleton. He retired after 31 years from Owens Brockway Glass in Lapel. Dick also worked several odd jobs, after retirement. Dick served his country in the United States Navy.He is survived by his wife of 58 years Donna (Henderson) Helterbrand of Lapel; children, Bill (Debbie) Helterbrand of Anderson, Ray Helterbrand of Lapel, and Ginny Helterbrand of Lapel; sister, Patsy Fort of Lapel; grandchildren, Will, Joni, Ashley, Sherri, Betty, and Glen, Brandon, and AbiGayle; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren . Dick is also survived by his pets, Emitt and Ernie, A special neighbor, Toni Sylvester, and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Helterbrand, and his sisters, Lena Smiley, and Nila Bilbrey.A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana with Pastor David Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel, Indiana.Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.Military Rites will be conducted by the US Navy and the Lapel American Legion, Post 212.
