Richard H. Riley, 83, of Anderson, passed away on November 1, 2021 at Beaumont Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Anderson. He was born on September 11, 1938 in Anderson to the late James and Martha (Jackson) Riley. Richard graduated from Roosevelt Elementary School in 1952, Anderson High School in 1956, and received his Master’s Degree at Ball State University. Richard retired as a teacher and counselor after 40 years of service. He taught at the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township in Marion County and Lawrence North High School. He also taught Driver’s Education at various schools. Richard was a member of the United Wesleyan Church, National Education Association and the Indiana State Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife, Mary Carolyn (Winslow) Riley of Anderson; children, Peter Riley of Anderson, Jane Riley of Anderson, Martha Riley of Indianapolis; grandchildren, BC (Erin) Monoceros and Rhi Riley; step brothers, Norman (Ann) Elsbury, Richard (Judy) Elsbury, Hugh Elsbury; step sister, Joyce Schrieber; cousins, Karl (Dianna) Nordman and Mark (Margaret) Nordman. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Riley and his step father, Floyd Elsbury. Services will be held on Friday at 12:00 pm at United Wesleyan Church, 2233 S. Central Way, Anderson, IN 46011 with Pastor Joe Jackson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church. Burial will take place on Saturday at 11:00 am at Oaklandon Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorial Contributions may be made to United Wesleyan Church.
