Richard Dee “Delco Dick” Elmore

Richard Dee “Delco Dick” Elmore, 88, of Anderson, passed away Dec 3, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness. Richard was born November 11, 1931 in Indianapolis, the son of the late A. Clark and Frieda A. Elmore. He enlisted in the USAF as Airman First Class in 1950 serving during the Korean War. Retired after 30+ years at GM, he started at Allison Division of GM then transferred to Delco Remy in Anderson. Richard was a 50+ year member of Masonic Lodge 681, and a member of Scottish Rite. He was an amateur “HAM” radio operator for 60 years with call letters “WA9STB”. He served as President for several years of the Madison Co. Amateur Radio Club. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League and Madison Co. Emergency Management Agency. He started in racing as an official for the United States Auto Club (USAC) for the Stock Car Division. After retirement from GM, he was asked to return and support the Delco components on IndyCar Series (CART) for over 10 years, traveling to all the race venues as a contract person through Anderson Tool & Die. He also was an Honorary Pit Crew Member for Michael Andretti of the Penske Racing Team. During his life, he volunteered as a “Red Coat” at St John’s Hospital, “Contact Help”, National Suicide Prevention and at Community Hospital. Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, N. Pearl Elmore; his daughters, Dawn (Al) Mihic, Robin (Chip) Abbott and Cheryl (J.D,) Rogers; grandchildren, Jocelin (Kelley), Kristopher (Brittany), Veronica, Andrew, Brandy (Dave), Sunnie (Chris), Rachelle (Mat), Ryan, Rebecca (Michael), Nick (Leigh Ann), Rick (Meghan); great-grandchildren, Isabella, Liam Cole, Samantha (Jed), Morgan (Ben), Jillian, Corbin, Patrick, Oliver, Brinkley, and Hadley; great-great grandchildren, Nova, Kyson, Rayna; and son-in-law, Jeff Riseden. He was preceded in death by a daughter Venus Anne Riseden. A Masonic service will begin the Celebration of Life Service at 3pm Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation for family and friends will be from noon-3pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
