Richard Dean Cunningham

Richard Dean Cunningham, 79, Lapel, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on August 31, 1933, in Clay City, Indiana to Ralph and Beulah (Funk) Cunningham. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1951 and served in the U. S. Army in the Korean War. Richard retired in 1998 from General Drilling in Fishers. He was a member of the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625. Richard loved camping and fishing and was an avid square dancer. He enjoyed wood working after his retirement and built several beautiful pieces of furniture. He also liked to travel with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Earleen (Zook) Cunningham; eight children, Debbie (husband, Terry) Quinn of Alexandria, Cindy (husband, Dorin) Purkey of Pendleton, Sandy Davidson of Markleville, Barbara (husband, Richard) Tucker of Kokomo, Dean (wife, Diane) Cunningham of Raleigh, NC, Linda Diane (husband, Fred) Sears of Frankton, Robert (wife, Lori) Cunningham of Lapel, and Denise (husband, Patrick) Connors of The Colony, TX; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Hammond. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 1, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. John Pflum officiating. Burial will follow in Perkinsville Cemetery, Anderson where the Lapel American Legion Post 212 will perform military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel and the Lapel Masonic Lodge will perform a Masonic memorial service at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health Hospice, 9894 East 121st Street, Fishers, Indiana 46037
