Richard “Dick” Darrel Dean, 89, of Anderson, surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from complications of pneumonia.
Born February 20, 1935, Richard was the only child of Wahn and Mabel Dean (Myers) and was a graduate of Anderson High School, Class of 1954. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Janice Dean (Bohné), on December 11, 1955 and was an adoring and dedicated husband for sixty-nine (69) years.
Dick proudly served the Anderson community throughout his career with the Anderson Fire Department, rising to Assistant Fire Chief. While serving as a fireman, Dick also worked at Delco Remy as a contractor, installed and serviced scales, and operated Concrete Redi-Mix trucks. Following retirement from the fire department, Dick owned and operated Dick’s Bar in Lapel, Indiana. Throughout his career, and well into retirement, Dick was a member of Fellowship #681 Masonic Lodge in Anderson, was a Scottish Rite Freemason in Indianapolis, and frequently gathered with cherished friends.
Dick was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered as a humble, quiet, wise and steady voice of reason, and his family members are forever grateful for his loving support, the pranks he played, his exceptional euchre skills, and his habit of taking candid family photographs. Dick also passes on to his family a love for the lake life. For much of his adulthood, he maintained a family lake houses on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, IN and Big Barbee Lake in Pierceton, Indiana and spent countless weekends and summers antiquing, tinkering in the garage, riding his John Deere, and testing his family’s watersport abilities.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wahn and Mabel Dean, several aunts and uncles, son-in-law, John Thar, and many cherished dogs.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Janice Dean; children, Rodney Dean, Deanna (David) Dean-Webster, and Cynthia Dean; grandchildren, Reginald Badeaux, Rachel (Bradley) Webster, and Noah (Lindsey) Gold; and great-grandchildren, Mollie Badeaux, Augustus Badeaux, Edward Lohmeier, and Bridget Webster.
A visitation for Dick will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Bozell Funeral Homes- Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E 53rd Street, Anderson, IN 46013, followed by a funeral ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
