Richard A. “Dick” Cowger, 82, Anderson, passed away March 31, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 1, 1934, in Terre Haute, the son of the late Robert and Virginia (High) Cowger. He was a 1952 graduate of Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. He attended Purdue University and graduated from Metro State College in Denver. His career took him to Denver, Chicago and in 1976 to Anderson where he was Plant Manager for the ABEX Corporation retiring in the early 1980s. He also had worked as a realtor. Dick served in the US Army and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Elk’s Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine H. Cowger of Anderson; two children, Julie (Robert) Benson of Indianapolis and Michael (Sheila) Cowger of Noblesville; two grandchildren, Brielle Cowger and Kamri Cowger, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlene Erickson, Arden Peterson, Vernon Peterson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother, Norma Mathes and Ronald Cowger. Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Matt Manning officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by Daleville American Legion Post #446. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 310 East 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013.
