Rev. Stephen Paul Gettinger, 71, of Anderson passed away on April 12, 2025, after an extended illness. Steve was born on December 17, 1953, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Paul and Maurine (Stiles) Gettinger. He graduated from Everett High School and went on to attend Doane College, graduating magnum cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Steve married the love of his life, Marilyn "Lyn" (Larson), on June 1, 1974. Shortly after, he received both a masters degree from the University of Nebraska and a Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Steve pastored faithfully for many years. After serving in Fairport Harbor, OH, and Yutan, NE, he dedicated the final 35 years of his ministry to the congregation of Whetstone Christian Church. He worked intimately with God's church in Anderson, especially through the Racial Reconciliation Picnic, the Concerned Ministers Association, and the Christian Clergy Association of Anderson. His impact around the world included working as a founding board member for The Friends of Hope, which worked with churches of India to open multiple children's homes.
As a loving father, Steve traveled throughout the United States and across the world with his family to experience God's wonders together. He consistently connected to others, demonstrated by his showing up to major events in their lives. Steve loved creating with his potters wheel, woodworking, and making maple syrup.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Lyn; children, Meg (Gabor) Dul, Jo (Jon) Leggett, and Benny (Veronica) Gettinger; grandchildren, Xander Leggett, Deacon Leggett, Myn Leggett, Titus Leggett, Peter Dul, Evelin Dul, and Gabriel Dul; step-mother, Sue Earling Gettinger; siblings, Glenn Gettinger, Julia (Tom) Williams, Daniel (Kay) Gettinger, Paul (Monica) Gettinger, and Jean (Brent) McCammon; step-sisters, Jocelyn (Tim) Taylor, Cindy Hunt, and Judith Gilliland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Geraldine Gettinger; step-sister, Linda Kachurik; and twin grandsons, Ian and Bishop Gettinger Leggett.
