Reginald E. Kersey born to the parents of Elizabeth Evans and Ralph E. Kersey Sr., both have preceded him in death.
Reginald was raised by his grandmother, Florena and Step-grandfather Forest Jenkins. Reginald attended Blaine Elementary and Jr high school. Gene was a graduate of Muncie Central ‘Bearcats’ High School; class of 1952. Gene played basketball and ran track/Cross country. Gene and Mary had three children; Reginald E. Kersey Jr-Karen J. Kersey-Karl P. Kersey. Mary Shaw and Gene Kersey divorced in later years.
Gene attended North Christian Church for many years where he enjoyed being part of many activities.
Gene was a member of First Baptist Church, Anderson and served as Trustee and church Treasurer. Gene was a member of U.A.W. Local 489, and served as a trustee and Financial Secretary for several years. He was a member of the local and National AARP, the L.I.F.E. Club at Lamberts Music Center where he learned and enjoyed playing the organ.
Gene was a member of the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame. Gene served as a Board member and Chairman of the Board for Operation Love Ministries for several years in Anderson. Gene was a golfer and played on the Madison County Senior playing Golf with all the in on Tuesday and Thursday. He played in the World Amateur Golf Tournament, Myrtle Beach South Carolina many times.
Gene was dedicated bowler for many years, in Muncie and Anderson. He served as a League Secretary and as president of many different bowling Leagues in Muncie and Anderson.
Gene was a member of The Muncie Bowling Association, Hall of Fame, he served as a member of the Board of Directors and as President of the Board for ten years. Gene was on several Bowling championship teams. He received a plaque from U.S.B.C., for twenty-five years of participation in the National Tournament.
Gene was a State Senior Singles Champion in 2002 – 2006 and 2014, high game ‘299’.
Gene was a Journeyman Electrician and retired from Delco Battery, Muncie Indiana 1993.
Gene is survived by his wife of 25 years Lois I. Kersey. Married August 11, 1998, together they enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling abroad & the United States., his son Reginald E. Kersey Jr (Denise), Daughter Karen and son Karl P. Kersey (Melanie), Step-brother Larry Wilkerson (Lucille), 2nd cousin Patricia Faulkner,
4 grandchildren – Ahmad Kersey, Sean Casey, Kirsten Kersey, Blake Kersey, great grandchildren; Kaneise Casey, Autumn Kersey, Alexandra Kersey, Sean Casey Jr., Gene’s nephew- Donald E. Evans, Neice-Toni Evans and several great nieces and nephew’s, Gene’s step children Michael Barker wife Trish, Carol Hardman, Teara Hayes, Sue Ann Kahn’s & children, Carl Ashby and family.
Preceded in death are Gene’s Mother/Elizabeth Evans, Gene’s father Ralph E. Kersey Sr., Brother – Ralph E. (Ducky) Kersey Jr, Sister-Barbara (Evans) Bryant, Nephew’s Carlos, Evans and Mustapha (Lynn) Evans, 2nd cousin James Reynolds.

The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 28, 2023 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson 46013. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Anderson Memorial Park, 6805 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Anderson, IN 46013.
