Paul E. O'Neill

Paul E. O’Neill, 93, Anderson, passed away April 16, 2020 at Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was born December 17, 1926, in Anderson, the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Derringer) O’Neill. Paul was a graduate of Anderson High School and Anderson College. His proudest high school moment was being a team member of the Anderson Indians State Championship Basketball team. He was drafted out of school his senior year and served as a Marine as part of what became known as “The Old China Marines” during World War II. Upon returning home he finished his education and served as a teacher in South Holland, IL and North Vernon, IN. Paul eventually left teaching and returned to Anderson and joined O’Neill Insurance Agency with his father. Paul worked at the agency until his retirement eight years ago. He also served as Commander of the American Legion and Chef-De-Gare of the 40 & 8. Paul was an avid golfer and member of the Edgewood Country Club, American Legion, 40 & 8, B.P.O.E. and Trinity Episcopal Church. At one time he also served as the City Controller for the city of Anderson. He was preceded in death by his son, James Ronald “Ron” O’Neill; brother, Melvin O’Neill and sister, JoAnne Price. He is survived by his wife, Lynda O’Neill of Anderson; daughter, Julie O’Neill; son, Joseph (Lynn) O’Neill; granddaughter, Kelleigh (Tyler) Purtill; twin great grandchildren, EmmaLeigh and Grayson Purtill and grandson, Lt. Kendall (McKenna) O’Neill, USN.
