Paul E. Jarvis

July 9, 1914 — December 5, 2016

Paul E. Jarvis, 102, of Anderson passed away Dec. 5, 2016 at Rawlins House in Pendleton. He was born July 9, 1914, in Anderson, the son of Harry and Lillie (Stottlemyer) Jarvis and was a lifelong Anderson resident. Growing up during the Great Depression along with his eleven siblings was a difficult time. He attended Anderson High School studying mechanics and was self-taught to do just about anything. For medical reasons he was unable to join the armed services, so he became a member of the Civil Conservation Corps. Along with other young men from Anderson, he boarded a bus to California to help put out forest fires. He worked at Barber Manufacturing and Delco-Remy. For approximately thirteen years he owned and operated a Cities Service Station at the junction of Ohio and Cincinnati Avenue in Anderson. Later he worked at Forse Equipment Corporation and retired from the maintenance department of Community Hospital. In 1948, he and his two brothers, Floyd and Gerald, helped him build his home on west 34th street and a lake cottage in northern Indiana in 1958. The family has continued to enjoy vacations there through the years. Paul was above all else a family man, he loved his wife Roberta Jean (Goyer) Jarvis, who he married on April 15, 1939, and was saddened when she passed away last July 30th, after 77 years of marriage. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was friendly to everyone, always willing to help anyone, enjoyed telling stories and had a great sense of humor. Survivors include his daughters, Sharon A. (Doug) Robinson of Pendleton, Joyce (Mark) O’Neil of Westbrook, CT; grandchildren, Lori (Rob) Wheeler, of Indianapolis, Derrick (Cary) Robinson also of Indianapolis, Todd (Katka) Brizendine of Singapore, Kristian Brizendine of Thailand and Jeny (Tim) Logan of California; four great grandchildren, Ireland Robinson, Zoe and Simon Brizendine and Maddison Logan; several nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law David (Jeannie) Goyer. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Rawlins House for their care and support of Paul. Services will be Noon, Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with Pastor Jerome Bell officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Madison County Humane Society.
